How to Connect ChatGPT to PowerPoint, Step by Step

How to connect ChatGPT to PowerPoint: in PowerPoint go to Home → Add-ins, search ChatGPT and add it, open it from the ribbon and sign in with Continue with ChatGPT. Before it edits a real deck, save a copy: OpenAI's own help page says it can make mistakes, even when editing or deleting slides. Then paste your notes and it builds one clear slide that stays editable. Ask what it would change first: it lists the changes and edits only after you say go. It works on every ChatGPT plan, Free and Go with limited use. Not available on your work laptop? Ask IT instead of working around it.

Here's how to connect ChatGPT to PowerPoint. And one thing before you let it edit. In PowerPoint, press Home, Add-ins, search ChatGPT, Add, open it from the ribbon, Continue with ChatGPT, sign in, and you are back in PowerPoint. It works on every ChatGPT plan, even free, but with fewer requests. Before it touches a real deck, save a copy. OpenAI's own help page says it can make mistakes even when editing or deleting slides. Then paste your notes. It built one clear slide for my manager, the decision on the right, and it stays editable.

Now ask what it would change first. It lists the changes. You say go, and only then it edits. You do not have access to it on your work laptop. The only way is to ask IT. Do not work around it, since OpenAI should be officially approved in your company if you want to use it with the company data. Save the file first, then let it build. It will do magic in minutes.

Questions people ask

Does ChatGPT for PowerPoint work on the free plan?
Yes. OpenAI says it is available to Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu and K-12 users, and that Free and Go include limited usage access (help.openai.com, checked 29 October 2026).
Why save a copy before ChatGPT edits a deck?
OpenAI's help page says ChatGPT can make mistakes, including when editing or deleting presentation content, and suggests duplicating the file first for important work. For larger edits, ask it for a plan first.
What if the add-in isn't available on my work laptop?
Ask IT. Admins can deploy the add-in for the organisation; don't work around it, because company data belongs only in tools your company has approved.
