A new open-source project, REA (Reverse Engineer Anything), lets a coding agent like Claude take almost any app's installer and reverse engineer it into readable, editable code: a close copy of the product that you can then change and extend.

Alexey's take is that this flips the recent worry about open source. Instead of projects dying because AI copies them, people will copy almost any software and keep their own small, tailor-made tools, from window managers to office apps. All it takes is a strong model. (Check the licence of anything you reverse engineer: many commercial licences do not allow it.)

There's currently a movement which is happening in the software engineering world. It's called REA, Reverse Engineer Anything. And the core concept is that you can basically take almost any product, any binary file, like installer for, let's say, for Todoist app or for any other app you're having on your laptop. You can download it from the Internet and ask Claude or anything else, any other kind of very powerful AI tool to reverse engineer this thing. You basically need to just add some skills, which are published open source on GitHub or skills: REA, Reverse Engineer Anything.

And Claude will download all software which is required to reverse engineer it, something like Ghidra and others. And then this binary file will be reverse engineered, and you will have a version of this product on your machine with fully readable and editable code. Then, basically, what you can do after it, you can add whatever you want. You can change it. You can modify it. You can add something which has not existed in the previous software. The software is not exactly identical, but it's very, very similar to the one which you gave to reverse engineer.

So what will happen in the future? I think that the trend is the following. If before, we were thinking just maybe half a year ago, even less, that open source projects are dying because you can check open source project. You can copy it, and it doesn't just make sense to maintain it because of the amount of requests from AI agents also to change these projects. The thing which may happen now is that you'll be able suddenly to actually copy almost all the software and publish the small tools on GitHub.

You can basically have on your machine, let's say, your Mac, a lot of small tools which you are not paying for. You're just having them, and you're modifying them, or even you are creating them for your own needs. So you need something. You need kind of a tool which will place, like, Rectangle or others on macOS. You can recreate it. You can recreate Todoist. You can recreate Office and not pay for it. You can recreate already Adobe, and you have seen with the ArtCraft project how it's all working.

So people will be recreating the software. There'll be millions of different versions of different types of software. They will be tailor made to your needs, and you will be able to do it yourself. The only thing you need to have a good model like, Claude Opus 5.5 or maybe Astra model or actually anything else, even open source models, but very powerful. So I would recommend purchase subscriptions, try project, reverse engineer something, and then modify the software accordingly. Thank you for watching, and see you in the next video.

Bye.
