Reasoning
What looks like reasoning in AI is the model generating a sequence of text that mimics reasoning steps. It can produce logical-sounding arguments, work through multi-step problems by "thinking out loud," and arrive at correct conclusions. But this is sophisticated pattern matching from training data, not genuine logical deduction. Understanding this distinction helps set realistic expectations for when AI reasoning can be trusted.
